Gooooooooood afternoon Bronco families! (Please ask your student to read that in the voice that they are greeted in for the morning bulletin each day. The amount of o’s in good will completely make sense at that point.) Congratulations to our Varsity Colts Football team, as they won their game against Lower Lake on Saturday. Good luck to our 4-H students that are participating in the Lake County Fair this week! MMS is proud of you and your hard work! Please take the time to read the message below regarding student Chromebooks, as I hope it clears up some questions. Have a wonderful week ahead!
Chromebook update: First, I want to thank you for your patience while our site has been figuring out a new system for student Chromebook use this year. I want to make sure to explain the moving parts of the decision and system that is being created, so that there is always 100% transparency being communicated from my office.
In 2020, schools across the country had to figure out how to teach students while students were at home. It worked as well as it could, but I’m certainly thankful that it is behind us at this point. Then for the last 2 years, students have checked out Chromebooks so that they had 1 Chromebook in their possession wherever they went. The expectation was that it was to come to school charged and ready to be used for learning each day. From what I understand, there were many Chromebooks broken, lost and not charged for classroom use. The decision was made to purchase charging carts and use the Chromebooks to create a set in each classroom that is always charged for this current school year. The idea was that if a student really needed one at home, there were a few left to check out. The high number of requests for home Chromebook check out was not anticipated and there are not enough on campus to fulfill all of the needs. How can we decide who needs one more than another? It has also been stated from a fiscal view that there may not be enough future funding to keep up a 1:1 student to Chromebook ratio in the coming years. We have to take care of and keep track of the Chromebooks that we have on campus now. For these reasons, MMS will not be checking out individual student Chromebooks. If students need to use a Chromebook outside of class for classwork purposes, and you don't have technology at home, there are these alternatives that are available:
7:30 am-8:00 am (daily): Library open and Chromebooks available
12:05 pm-12:40 pm (daily): Library open during lunch period and Chromebooks available
2:30 pm-3:20 pm (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday): After school tutoring hours open and Chromebooks available
Most work, Lexia specifically, can be finished during class time-as there is time provided during the class periods. If your student is having any difficulty completing any work, please have them communicate with their teacher to see what problem solving can be done. I am sorry to have to be the bearer of this news, as it isn’t how I WANT it to be. I appreciate your understanding on this matter.
June 2024-DC Trip Opportunity: Ms. Haller, along with WorldStrides, is taking a trip to D.C. this summer and is inviting your student to join! There are 35 spots available. After School Tutoring: If your student would like a place to catch up on work, use a Chromebook or help understanding problems-after school tutoring is being offered 3 days per week. Tutoring hours are 2:30-3:20 pm and students may be picked up by a guardian or ride the high school bus home when tutoring is over(the teacher will give them a bus pass to ride the high school bus). This is the only way a student may remain on campus past 2:30 pm.
